American River Campground

The campground is located in the wharf precinct and ‘town centre’ of American River, a tranquil seaside village where ‘the bush meets the bay’. The area is abundant with birdlife, known for its rich maritime history and the sheltered bay leads into the Pelican Lagoon Marine Sanctuary. Fishing enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with the boat ramp located next to the campground and jetty only a 2 minute walk. Access to American River is via a paved road 9 kilometres from the main Hog Bay Road that links the port of Penneshaw with Kingscote. It offers campsites dispersed between the native vegetation, with a number of picnic shelters, bins, a Dump-Ezy, BBQ facilities and bathrooms with (paid) hot showers. Some dining options and supplies are within walking distance from the campground.
