Mikkira Station Koala Sanctuary is a 600 acre private property located 25 kms South of the town of Port Lincoln.
It used to be one of the first big sheep stations in the area after European colonisation but now it is part of a smaller property and home to over 100 wild koalas and other native wildlife.
The owners have allowed visitors and campers to enjoy this very pretty property for over 50 years.
It is now natural bushland and home to many rare and some endangered species of plants, animals and birds.
Ruins of when it was a sheep station remain, with stone wall sheep yards, chimney from the shearer's quarters, and a museum cottage that has been restored.
It is a popular place in the winter time, when it is open to the public, for picnics, bbqs and for camping. Also for groups and families to get together for a day out in nature where there is plenty of room.
Campfires are allowed when there is green grass, but dogs are strictly not allowed on the property as koalas are scared of dogs.
25kms South of Port Lincoln. Drive on Proper Bay Road, continue on past the turn off to the National Park Turn Right onto Fishery Bay Road (Unsealed ) Turn Right onto Mikkira Lane, Drive 2.5 kms to locked Entrance Gate (you will need your code for the key to unlock gate to get in). Once you are in the property Drive 2kms to the campground area. (Please keep going past the owners' house and sheds to respect their privacy, thankyou).
